Exterior Description And Setting


A 2 storey, 3 bay wide corner building with shopfront in 2 sides. The elevation to Ann Street has 2 large 2 pane shop windows separated by pier of masonry and each framed by fluted pilasters. The entrance door is on the corner, recessed so that the overhanging 1st floor corner provides a canopy and supported by 2 slender decorative cast iron columns. The framed and glazed entrance door with rectangular fanlight is linked inwards with narrow display windows on each side. Over the shop windows a long name fascia with painted lettering, with cornice and moulded framing. At 1st floor 3 no. double hung sliding sash 2 pane windows, corbel course under ½ round metal gutter and single downpipe. Walls smooth rendered and painted. Roof natural slates with hip and plain ridge tiles. The return façade on ground floor, the shopfront is carried round with name fascia ½ width of gable as before. At 1st floor 2 double hung sliding sash 2 pane windows. Walls and roofs as façade to Ann Street. In the recess the former mosaic flooring has been retained with the name Craig inscribed. The building has been more or less rebuilt recently retaining shop entrance position and decorative columns.

Historical Information
