Exterior Description And Setting

A two-storey three-bay house with rendered walls, slated roof, and a shop-front to the ground floor, forming part of a terrace of six houses. Main entrance faces east. Front elevation: Roof of Bangor blue slates in regular courses, two chimneys, one at each extremity, yellow brick to left, and smooth rendered to right. Wall smooth rendered, previously lined and blocked but markings almost obscured by later repainting, with raised quoins to left-hand extremity; cast iron gutter and downpipe. Windows to first floor are modern rectangular PVC fixed lights with top-hung vents, with small horns to top lights and small pane divisions to both lights, to simulate appearance of timber sashes; set in plain reveals, with projecting cills; modern scrolling wrought iron plant box supports attached. Openings to ground floor comprise a central doorway containing a rectangular panelled door of traditional design, surmounted by a plain rectangular fanlight. To left of doorway is a window similar to those of first floor. To right of doorway is a shop-front comprising a pair of modern arched timber 2-light fixed windows flanking a modern glazed door, all separated by modern panelled pilaster strips and surmounted by a large shop sign frieze; modern strip lighting fixture on metal brackets above. Rear elevation: Two-storey; roof of asbestos slates; modern rooflights; walls rendered with pebble dash, with smooth rendered raised quoins to extremities; smooth rendered platband; ground storey keyed for dash finish; PVC rainwater goods. Windows are PVC and timber fixed lights with top-hung vents. Modern glazed flush timber doors. Small lean-to projection to left. SETTING: The building stands in a terrace of six houses, within the built-up area of the village, facing directly onto the pavement, with an unobstructed view to the harbour across the main road.
