Exterior Description And Setting

A two storey / two bay house with a one-and-a-half storey outbuilding (partially incorporated into house) to left gable. Aligned NW-SE on the W side of the road to the E of Lisnawesnagh Townland, directly S of Sherry’s Bridge (HB12/01/078). Pitched natural slate roof with two brick chimneys: one to left gable and one to centre. Rainwater goods are half-round metal. Walls are whitewashed and harled. Windows are 2/2 sliding sashes with horns and painted stone cills (unless otherwise stated). Principal elevation faces NE. Left bay has a gabled windbreak porch at left and a window to each floor at right. Porch rises to ¾ height and is detailed as house. Front face has a t+g-sheeted door accessed by two stone steps. Right and left cheeks are blank. Right bay has a central window to each floor. Left gable is abutted by a slightly lower outbuilding. The exposed section is cement-rendered and blank. The outbuilding, formerly with pitched roof (now gone) has been partially incorporated into house. NE elevation is lime-rendered over rubble stone to left and cement-rendered to right (all whitewashed). To centre is a t+g sheeted door. To its right is a timber top-hung casement with concrete cill. To its left are two windows (detailed as main block), one to ground floor and one (much diminished in size) set to left of centre at eaves level. Left gable is blank. Rear elevation has a timber top-hung casement with concrete cill to left of centre. Right gable abuts the house. Rear elevation is almost completely abutted by a single storey addition (exposed right end is blank). First floor has a small window to each bay, each without cill. The return has a monopitched corrugated metal roof and concrete block walls. Rear face has a large timber top-hung casement without cill. Left cheek has a timber sheeted door. Right cheek is blank. Right gable is completely abutted by a slightly taller modern house.

A building is first cited here on the 1907 OS 6” map. Unfortunately the valuation revision books shed no light as to when it was erected. It is probably of later 19th century date.
