Exterior Description And Setting

A small mid-19thC barn church with projecting entrance porch aligned NW-SE on the southern boundary of Lisrace Townland. Pitched natural slate roof. Half-round metal rainwater goods. Walls are pebble-dashed over a painted cement-rendered base course with tooled and painted stepped stone quoins. All openings are set in painted cement-rendered reveals. Cills are painted stone. SE gable is abutted by a projecting gabled entrance porch, which is detailed as church but has cement-rendered quoins. SE face has a timber-framed lancet to centre. Left cheek has a segmental headed timber-sheeted door. Right cheek is blank. SW elevation has three equally spaced semi-circular headed Y-tracery uPVC windows. NW gable is blank. NE elevation has a window (as SW elevation) to left end only. It is abutted to right of the window by an addition, detailed as church with a monopitched natural slate roof. NE face has a pair of metal-framed top-hung casement windows to left with central timber mullion and concrete cill. It is abutted to right by a boiler house (see later). Left cheek has a timber-sheeted door at left. Right cheek is blank. Boiler house is detailed as church with a flat cement roof and two t+g-sheeted doors to SE face. Other elevations are blank. Setting: The church has a small garden to front and is enclosed from the road by a concrete block wall (mimicking stone) with ramped cement coping. It is accessed by a cast-iron gate supported on square-in-section gate piers (detailed as boundary wall).

Not depicted on the 1857 OS 6” map. Cited in the second valuation, published 1862, but compiled 1860. This indicates a construction date between 1857 and ’60. Primary sources: 1. OS map, 2nd edition, 1857 Co Fermanagh sheet 40. 2. Second valuation, Co Fermanagh/ Clones Union (1860/ 1862).
