Exterior Description And Setting

A group of vernacular buildings located on the E slope of Tievecrom Mountain within the Slieve Gullion AONB. The group consists of a two-bay single-storey vernacular house aligned downslope and a part two-storey/single storey outbuilding aligned along the slope to its SW. All roofs but one are pitched natural slate with half-round metal rainwater goods. Walls are lime-rendered and lime washed random rubble. Dwelling Principal elevation faces S. Rendered chimney to each gable of the left bay (which is slightly higher than the downslope right bay). Left bay is abutted to left by a single-storey lean-to shed linking it with right bay of outbuilding. Door at right-hand end of this bay. Right bay has a pitched artificial slate roof. Windbreak porch with flat concrete roof (just right of centre) with partly glazed t+g front door and blank cheeks. Window to each end are both 1/1 sliding sashes with painted concrete cills. Right gable is blank. Rear elevation has window towards right-end of left bay and in middle of right bay; the former is 1/1 sliding sash and the latter a metal-framed. Left gable of left bay is built into bank. Outbuilding To SW. Ttwo storey left block and single storey right block. Principal elevation face E. Left block has a t+g sheeted door to right-end and a window to its left; aligned above the latter is a small loading door. Right block has a t+g sheeted door to centre. Left gable of left bay has a door as first floor level, out to ground level (here raised). Rear elevation of left bay has a small window. Right gable of right bay is blank and is abutted at extreme right by a small lean-to shed between it and left bay of dwelling. Rear elevation is blank.

A building is shown here on the1835 OS map and subsequent editions. Its rateable valuation remains unchanged (15 shillings) between 1862 and 1930. Primary sources: 1.
