Historical Information

A building shown at this location on the 1835 OS map is captioned as a Police Barracks. It is described in the First Valuation book as measuring 29ft x 20ft x 11ft. By the 1859 edition, the barracks had moved elsewhere in the village. The site’s evolutionary development could not, however, be determined from the second and subsequent Valuation Books as the plot number on the Valuation maps is unspecific. Primary sources: 1. OS 6” map, 1st edition, Co Armagh sheet 31 (PRONI OS 6/2/31/1). 2. First Valuation book, 1836 (PRONI VAL 1B/247, p.57b). 3. OS 6” map, 2nd edition, Co Armagh sheet 31 (PRONI OS 6/2/31/2).
