Exterior Description And Setting

A two-storey, three-bay house with shop, aligned N-S on the W side of Main St. Pitched natural slate roof with a two-stage brick chimney to each gable. Half-round plastic rainwater goods. Walls are coursed squared granite rubble laid irregularly with strap pointing. All windows are uPVC top-hung 1/1 casements with granite cills (unless otherwise stated). Those to façade are set in large smooth rendered and painted stepped architraves. Principal elevation faces E. Left bay has a window with a decorative cast-iron cill grille at ground floor. To its right is a modern timber door with glazed side half panels and transom (all modern and with obscured glazing) set within a semi-elliptical headed pole-moulded reveal with V-jointed stucco jambs and voussoirs. Right bay contains the shop-front and is wider. It has a pair of modern timber doors with rectangular transom over to centre. To either side is a large 1/1 fixed-pane timber window. Above, a smooth rendered and painted fascia is supported on four plainly detailed pilasters, each resting on a painted stone plinth block and flanking the openings. First floor has four equally spaced windows aligned above ground floor openings. Left and right gables are each wet-dashed and have a window set to centre at first floor level. Rear elevation is wet-dashed and is almost completely abutted at ground floor by a similarly detailed lean-to return. Exposed right-hand section of ground floor has a window. First floor has four equally spaced windows. Right cheek of rear return has a modern timber door to right and a window with brick cill to left. Remaining elevations could not be inspected.

Unfortunately it is not possible to determine its size and evolutionary development (if any) from the first or subsequent Valuation books as the plot number cannot be determined from the Valuation map.
