Exterior Description And Setting

A two bay vernacular house aligned W-E on the E side of the Clontigora Road. It consists of a two-storey right bay and a single storey left bay. Roof to each bay is pitched corrugated metal with raised skews. There is a lime rendered chimney with lime washed brick copings to left gable of right bay. Overhanging eaves with slightly advanced timber eaves course. No rainwater goods. Walls are whitewashed lime rendered over random rubble unless otherwise stated. Principal elevation faces N. Right bay has a projecting gabled porch to right, a window to its left and one aligned above to first floor. Porch has a felted pitched roof with timber bargeboards. To its front face is a modern glazed and timber door with an applied moulded panel to the lower portion. Left and right cheeks are blank. All windows are fixed-pane with painted reveals and painted cement cills. That to ground floor is 2/2 with a 1/1 above. Left bay contains a single 2/2 fixed paned window with modern bullseye glazing. Exposed left gable of right bay is blank. That to left bay is unrendered. Rear elevation has a central top-hung casement window to each floor of left bay; and a single 2/2 sash to right bay. Right gable has a raised chamfered base course and is blank. Crudely formed holes have been created at ground floor level to each of the walls. (February 2004)

Historical Information

First shown on the 1861 OS map (but not the 1835 edition). Its valuation in 1862 was 15s, and remains unchanged in the Valuation revision books. It is therefore of mid 19th century date.
