Original buildings have been demolished, probably around 1989, and a new apartment building erected on the site in the early 1990's.

Historical Information

First cited in the Valuation Revision book entry of 1868. HMBB first survey card states “Late C19th pair of houses, each of 3-storeys with slated roof and rendered walls, channelled horizontal below first floor moulded cill course, lined to simulate masonry above. All windows double hung with plain sashes, segmental-headed second floor windows above moulded cill course. Square eaves cornice supported by consoles with dentil ornament. Entrances with rectangular fanlight flank an elliptical-arched vehicle entrance with faceted keystone. Six windows wide”. HMBB first survey slide shows a symmetrical pair of three storey houses, with No.28 to left and No.26 to right. They share a pitched natural slate roof with a single rendered and coped chimney to left gable (right gable not visible). Terracotta tile skews. Pairs of well-spaced stucco corbels carry an advanced eaves course, which supports cast-iron gutters. Walls are lined rendered and painted. Band rustication to ground floor which has a chamfered base course and common cill course. Moulded cill courses to upper floors. To centre in semi-elliptical carriage arch with raised keystone and V-channelled voussoirs. Pair of carriage doors, each is diagonally sheeted with ornate strap hinges. To either side of the coachway are the entrance doors to each property. Both are timber with beaded muntins separating elongated round-headed panels. Over each is plain transom. Doorways are plain with chamfered reveals. No 28 has two 1/1 sliding sash windows to left of its door. These have chamfered reveals and channelled voussoirs (as the doorcase). No 26 has a large tripartite casement window with small transoms. This seems to have been inserted into an enlarged opening created by the removal of two sash windows and the masonry between them. Each property has three 1/1 sliding sash windows (with horns) to first floor. At second floor each property has two segmental headed 1/1 sash windows (diminished in height) in line with first floor windows. A similar fifth window is set in the centre of the elevation in line with the coachway. A slightly lower building abuts left gable. Right gable is blank and cement rendered. Primary Sources: 1.
