Historical Information

The railway line to Moneymore was part of the Midland line branch from Antrim to Cookstown via Magherafelt. The station was opened in October 1856. In 1877 railway improvements mean that Moneymore had a direct connection to Dublin via Dungannon. The line ceased in 1953 and the last station master was Robert Neill who was in the post 8 years. The present owners purchased the station from a Frank Ross and converted it into a dwelling house. The structures to the N of station were removed and the main stations building altered retaining the ticket office, waiting rooms, goods access and store. The building originally would have been redbrick faced. IHR No. 2195:36. References Primary Sources 1. O.S. Map 1906 Londonderry sh. 109. 2. Curl J.S. Evaluation

An interesting conversion of former mid 19th cent. railway station to a dwelling house and though much has been altered, much has been retained externally and internally of the form and detail of the building and its function.
