Exterior Description And Setting

A Church of Ireland graveyard which contained the former C of I church of St John. The graveyard is bound by a random rubble stone wall with entrance from Lawford Street. Little remains of the former church building. Entrance is from Lawford Street with square stone rubble piers and double wrought iron gates. The graveyard is fairly full of graves and many headstones.

The graveyard is the site of the second church built in the Parish of Desertlyn in the Archdiocese of Armagh. The first church was built in the townland of Ballymully in 1622 and the second was built in Lawford Street in 1767, the ruins of which are barely discernible. References Primary Sources 1. O.S. Evaluation

An interesting graveyard of the Church of Ireland spanning the Georgian period. It has substantial stone boundary wall and much history of the Desertlyn Parish contained within its walls.
