Exterior Description And Setting

Two storey gabled vernacular house of probable mid 19th century construction, set on the a rise to the S side of the Bryansford Road, c.1 mile SE of the small village of Kilcoo, c.5 miles W of Bryansford. The front façade is asymmetrical. To the right of centre is a small porch which has a flat roof which appears to have been made from a slab of stone. This porch has a timber sheeted stable door. To the left of the porch are two small sash windows with a timber sheeted door between (no longer used). To the right of the porch is another small window, but with modern frame. To the first floor are four small sash windows, with that to the far left slightly larger than the rest. The E gable has a recent looking fixed light window to the first floor. To the W gable there is a single storey shed with a mono-pitched slated roof. This links to a large single storey gabled shed further to W. To the rear there are three small windows to the ground floor and two to the first floor, all with modern frames. The façade is harled and white washed. The gabled roof is covered in concrete tiles. Two rendered chimney stacks, to centre and W gable. PVC rw goods.

Historical Information

A house is shown on this site on the OS map of 1859, which probably corresponds to the dwelling we see today. The current owner states that he believes the house was built by a family named Cunningham (a common name in this area).
