Exterior Description And Setting


Long, single storey gabled vernacular dwelling of probable pre 1834 origin, set in a hollow to the S of the Hilltown Road, a mile W of Bryansford village. The building is set on a slope running N to S. The front façade faces E and is asymmetrical. To the left of centre is a timber sheeted door with a window to the left and two to the right, all with sash frames (vertical glazing bars- 2 panes over two). The window To the S gable there is a small gabled shed with doorway and small window opening to front (E). The N gable is blank. To the rear there are two windows, with modern frames, to left and centre. To the right is a lean-to (which was largely obscured from view. The façade is harled and two of the windows to front have crudely fashioned surrounds. The roof is covered in natural slate. There is a small cast iron skylight to front. Three rendered chimney stacks. Cast iron rw goods. Small outbuildings to N and W. Wrought iron gate at end of drive to N with round gate pillars.

Historical Information


There is a building shown on this site on the OS maps of 1834 and 1859, which probably corresponds with the house we see today. A Patrick McAnalan is recorded as a tenant in the 1863 valuation, with the property rated at the 10 shillings (actually below rateable value).
