Exterior Description And Setting

Long, single storey, gabled vernacular dwelling of probable pre 1834 construction, now used as an outbuilding. The property is set on the S side of the Dublin Road, in the small village of Kilcoo, c.4 miles SW of Castlewellan. The front façade faces N and is asymmetrical. To the right of centre is a timber sheeted door. To the left of this are two windows, now boarded, with another boarded window to the right. The E gable is blank. To the W gable is a long single storey gabled outbuilding, in two sections. This has a small window opening to left, then a large vehicle entrance, then three doorways. The rear façade of the whole row is blank. The front façade of the whole row, and the E gable, are harled and white washed, the rear and W gable are unpainted. The roof of the former house section is covered in corrugated iron, the rest is in natural slate. Single rendered chimney stack to W side of ‘house’.
