Exterior Description And Setting

A picturesque very well kept 4 room cottage with projecting porch and back return, gabled with chimneys, corrugated iron roof and wall with modern plaster painted white. The elevation to the road is 3 bays long with central projecting porch. There are 3 pane modern windows in gable and entrance door on flank wall to north. On either side similar but wider 3 pane windows. Concrete cills, smooth rendered and painted plinth. The panel gable has bargeboards but the eaves are ½ round metal gutters. Roofs are neatly done in painted corrugated iron. Each gable has a neat chimney obviously rebuilt and plastered. The walls are recently roughcast plastered and painted white. The gables are without windows and a lean to shed abuts the north gable. The rear elevation has sliding sash 4 pane windows on each side of the back return. The gable of the back return has a modern 4 pane window while the back door is on the N flanking wall. The back return has bargeboards as have the main gables with slight overhangs. The entire cottage is kept in an excellent state of repair and decoration. The house is sited in a large garden by the side of Polly’s Brae road. Behind the cottage a feature has been made of a small stream and the garden is excellently kept. While not a dwelling in the correct vernacular style it is eyecatching and the neat detail of the corrugated iron roof is very good.

This is an eyecatching quasi-vernacular style house mainly because of the use of the corrugated iron roofing material and the general overall good maintenance of the property. It has been heavily renovated recently but well done in a simple manner.
