Exterior Description And Setting

Two and a half storey/ two bay house, set fourth from left in a terrace on NW side of Great George’s Street. Left bay has a two and a half storey canted bay window and the right bay has a wall-head dormer. Pitched natural slate roof with advanced eaves course supporting half round plastic gutters. Red brick corbelled chimney and narrow concrete skew to left party wall with adjoining house (HB16/11/034C). Canted bay has a slate roof with terracotta ridges. Right bay dormer has a pitched roof with plain timber bargeboard. Principal elevation faces SE to street. Walls are rendered and painted with a chamfered base course and moulded string courses to ground and first floors rising over the segmental headed openings. Entrance is at ground floor right. Door is a modern stained timber four panelled (raised and fielded) with plain transom over. At first floor, over the door, is a segmental headed window with stop-end chamfered arris. It contains a modern uPVC top-hung casement window with painted cill. All other windows are identical. Ground floor and first floor of left bay each have a pair of windows to their front and a single window to each cheek. The top floor openings are as those below but with flat heads and diminished in height. Small front area has a low dwarf wall. Left gable is completely abutted by adjoining building (HB16/11/034C). Rear elevation was not inspected. Right gable is completely abutted by adjoining building (HB16/11/034E).

Historical Information

Not on the 1834 town map. Shown on the 1861 map and described in the 1863 Valuation Book as measuring 7.25yds x 8.75yds x 2 2/3 storeys high, with a 1.5 storey return.
