Historical Information

Shown on the 1834 OS 6" map. Described in the 1861 valuation book as measuring 22yds x 6.5yds x 2 storeys high with various returns. The occupied by Hugh Campbell (under lease from the Hall Estate). An 1846 travelogue describes the area thus: “… the vicinity is very attractive, and ornamented with numerous villas and gentlemen’s seats; one of the most conspicuous of which is Dromore Lodge, the seat of James Robinson, Esq. J.P”. A gate lodge was built in 1869. Explicitly cited as Dromore Lodge on the 1901-02 OS map. The original survey card states “ Late C18th house of two storeys presenting a main elevation of five windows to the road. The walls are roughcast and the slated roof has a wide overhang supported by brackets which continue below bargeboards. All double hung windows have glazing bars and cills are of granite. The entrance door with semi-circular fanlight (glazing bars) is recessed in a coved elliptical arched opening. An inner door is set in an elliptical arched opening with fanlight (spider’s web) and sidelights. Good interior detailing”. Primary sources 1.
