This pair of houses is depicted in the 1835 large-scale town map and described in the first valuation of the same year as each measuring 32ft x 19ft x 17ft. They are probably early 19th C in date. The HMBB first survey slide shows a pair of identical buildings. Both share a pitched natural slate roof with tiled skew to right gable. There is a cement rendered chimney to either end of the roof ridge and one on party wall between the two houses. Half round metal rainwater goods draining to a downpipe falling to centre of no.8 (left house). Walls are painted lined render with stepped quoins to left and right ends but not between each house. Each house has a door at extreme left end of façade with a plain fanlight and a 1/1 sash window over to first floor. At ground and first floor left are tripartite sash windows comprising a sash window flanked by narrow 1/1 sashes. Left house has a 1/1 tripartite window and right one has a 2/2 one. The left house, (no. 8) has a multi-glazed door with glazed sidelights to its right. The right house (no. 9) has a four-panelled door. Both houses have small vestibules.
