Exterior Description And Setting

A 2½ storey 2 bay wide building with shopfront. Shopfront occupies width of façade, with restaurant window having 6 vertical panes with 3 semicircular panels above with remaining segments glazed too. Entrance door recessed, with large top panel glazed with decorative glass, one flank glazed. Shopfront framed with narrow pilasters and framed name fascia over with cornice, painted lettering in gold leaf. Front painted a matt bottle green. At 1st floor 2 pane windows, upper pane tophung, decorative guard rails to cills for window boxes. ½ round gutter on timber fascia, no eaves, wall smooth rendered and painted with projecting sign enhanced with decorative metalwork. Roof natural slated with 2 no. small velux type rooflights. Where roof meets No. 14 there is a concrete barge from chimney stack to gutter. Red ridge tile. The single downpipe wiggles a lot on way down. The building observes the terrace building line.

Probably a mid or earlier 19th cent. building. The present owner (2000) took the property from M/s B Kelly in 1983. The former has since reslated the building and turned it into a restaurant in 1990s. James McCormick was architect for recent work. References Primary Sources 1. O.S.
