Exterior Description And Setting

A 2½ storey 3 bay wide building with shopfront. Elevation to Castle Street, ground floor from left : Display window in 2 large pane with 2 pane glazed shop door with name fascia over in plastic. Modern sheeted entrance door to living accommodation, a single sliding sash 2 pane window with moulded architrave and keystone. At 1st floor 3 no. widely spaced sliding sash 2 pane windows as ground floor. Corbel course and cast iron ogee gutter gutter, single square downpipe. 2Velux windows. Wall smooth rendered and painted, roof man made slates, chimney stack at one gable pebble dashed. To the rear there is a 2 storey 3 bay long back return with double pitched roof and single chimney stack on roof. The building observes the terrace building line and as it is near the top of Castle Street roof stepping is much reduced. Indeed the ridge line is level with No. 50.

Evaluation

A simple wide 3 bay house with a small inappropriate shopfront tucked to one side of its façade. It is still capable of restoration to a more appropriate façade for the Conservation Area . Its form is complementary to its neighbours.
