Exterior Description And Setting

This building has been demolished. It was described in the first survey in 1971 as "A single storey lodge with widely overhanging slated roof. The walls are rendered and painted. Originally T-shaped there are now extensions on the N.W. corner. All openings are segmental-headed, windows are plain sashed, doors are modern. Gate piers are fret-decorated in upper parts. The corners of the main building are chamfered."

Historical Information

Built for G.J. Clarke as a gate lodge to his house The Steeple which was built in 1827. Precise date of lodge not known but a lodge appears on the first OS map of 1832, and so it is probably contemporary with the main house.
