Exterior Description And Setting

A single-storey, two-bay vernacular house roughly N-S on the E slope of Slieve Gullion, in the AONB Ring of Gullion. Pitched natural slate roof with rendered chimney to centre. Half round cast-iron rainwater goods. Rear pitch has a central skew. Walls are lime rendered random rubble. Principal elevation faces E. To extreme right end of right bay is a windbreak porch with catslide roof and t+g sheeted entrance door. Left and right cheeks are blank. To its left is a granite seat. Set to left of porch is a single window – one to each bay, both are boarded over and have granite cills. Left gable is blank. Right gable is completely abutted by a single-storey outbuilding with pitched corrugated metal roof and t+g sheeted door to centre. Its right gable is abutted by a lean-to and another outbuilding (of no interest). The exposed section is blank. Setting. Dwelling has a small garden area to front enclosed by a rubble stone wall on all three sides.

A small building is shown here on the 1835 OS Map. Its valuation in 1862 is only 5s and remains the case in subsequent valuations. It is probably of early 19th century date. Primary sources: 1.
