Exterior Description And Setting

A single-storey, two-bay vernacular dwelling, aligned N-S on the E slope of Slieve Gullion, overlooking the AONB Ring of Gullion. Pitched natural slate roof to right bay, corrugated metal to left bay. There is a wet-dashed chimney to each gable, and a tile skew between each bay. Walls are wet-dashed. Principal elevation faces E. To left end of right bay is a windbreak porch with monopitched natural slate roof and t+g sheeted door to front face. Right and left cheeks are blank. To its right is a timber top-hung casement with concrete cill. Left bay has a 2 x 3 metal framed casement to left of centre. Right and left gables are blank. The latter is abutted by a lower and shallower outbuilding, detailed as house with corrugated metal roof. There is a doorway to left of centre. To front is a small yard enclosed by a wet-dashed wall. Its left gable and rear elevation are blank. Rear elevation of house is blank and built into a bank.

A small building is shown here on the 1835 OS Map. Its valuation in 1862 is only 5s and remains the case in subsequent valuations. It is probably of early 19th century date. Primary sources: 1.
