Exterior Description And Setting

Two storey, two bay, near symmetrical house aligned W-E on east side of Clontigora Rd. Roof is pitched natural slate with tile skews, overhanging eaves and exposed rafter tails under plain timber eaves. These are punctuated to front and rear elevations by two wall-head dormers with decorative bargeboards. There is a brick chimney to each gable. There are no rainwater goods. Walls are whitewashed lime render over random rubble with a tarred cement rendered base course to façade and machine brick dressings to openings (unless otherwise stated). Principal elevation faces N. A large granite field-boulder marks the left hand corner. Set slightly to left of centre is a projecting porch with a pitched natural slate roof, overhanging eaves and decorative bargeboards. There is a t+g sheeted door with granite base blocks to front face. Right and left cheeks are blank. To either side, each bay has a single window to each floor. All have granite cills and remains of 2/2 sliding sash windows. Those to first floor are slightly narrower. Left gable is blank with ghost marks of a former lower outbuilding. The section above is cement rendered. Rear elevation has a single window to each bay on each floor. All are infilled with concrete blocks. Right gable has a single infilled window at ground floor left. Set directly NE of house is a two storey stable block with cart house, facing west. Roof is pitched natural slate. Walls are rubble stone. From ground floor left are; two t+g sheeted doors with flat brick heads, and a small window opening. To right end is a large opening with a modern steel head. To first floor is a central t+g sheeted loading door with a boarded window opening to either side. Rear elevation is built into a bank and has a large t+g sheeted opening to centre of first floor. Right and left gables are blank. The interior has no features of interest.

A building is shown here on the 1835 OS map. It has no valuation so must have been a small one storey building. It is valued at 15s.0d in the 1862 second Valuation and there is no change thereafter.
