Exterior Description And Setting

Single storey/ two-bay vernacular building with separate outbuilding. Aligned NE-SW with right gable to road. Pitched artificial slate roof (rounded corners to slates) with cement skews to gables. Red brick chimney to left gable and one just off-centre. There are no rainwater goods. Walls are whitewashed and lime rendered random rubble. Principal elevation faces SE. To right of centre is a windbreak porch with artificial monopitched slate roof. To front face is a timber-sheeted door. Cheeks are blank. To either side is a window opening. That at left has timber lintel and the remains of a 2/2 sliding sash frame and stone cill. That right has timber lintel and cement rendered jambs and cills. Left gable is blank. Rear elevation has window opening with timber head and remains of a 1/1 exposed-box sash. Right gable is blank. The outbuilding faces NW towards dwelling; left gable to road. Pitched roof has natural slates and irregular cement skew to each gable. Walls are of random rubble. To centre of principal elevation is a doorway. Left gable is blank. Rear elevation is blank save for a small ventilation opening. Right gable is also blank. Setting Enclosed to road by random granite rubble wall containing well, now infilled, to inside face. Premises accessed by modern metal gate hung on circular gate pillars with conical cement copings.

Historical Information

Although a building is shown at this location on the 1835 OS map, it and its associated outbuilding do not assume their present plan form until the 1861 edition.
