Exterior Description And Setting

A much altered two-storey house aligned N-S on the W side of Newtown Road. This house has been completely modernised and is now of no interest. Pitched artificial slate roof with brick chimney to each gable. Walls are pebble-dashed with smooth cement rendered basecourse. Principal elevation faces E. To centre is a brick porch with pitched artificial slate roof. Modern timber door to front face, its right and left cheeks are blank. To its left and right bay are single windows. Aligned to first floor are three windows; that to centre over porch is smaller. All windows are modern timber casements and have concrete cills. Left gable is abutted by a lower outbuilding detailed as house. The exposed section is blank. The rear elevation was not inspected. The right gable is blank. Boundary wall to road is whitewashed lime-rendered rubble stone, with stone copings. To right end are large similarly detailed square-in-section gate piers supporting modern gates. Set into the wall, to left of gate pier, is a small stile of granite steps. To left end of wall is a smaller pair of square piers with modern farmyard gate.

The building shown on this plot in the 1835 OS map has no valuation suggesting a small one storey structure. Its valuation in 1862 was £2.5s.0d, but this is revised to £3.10s.0d in 1869 (or 1877) and remains unchanged thereafter. It was probably raised to its present form at this time. Primary sources: 1.
