Exterior Description And Setting


Former gate house perpendicular to Drumrane Road set approximately ten metres behind boundary fence. Cast iron entrance gates at road with curving flanking baluster set on low rendered wall. Cast iron gate posts topped by finial, no manufacturer’s name, sweeping top rail of gate. Fleur de lis decoration to top of verticals. Lower section of arrowheads with cross scrap behind. Gate house roofless and derelict. Shell of building lime washed covering ashlar stonework on the east, road facing façade. Brickwork on the north (entrance drive) façade. Entrance in the north east corner. Two windows facing drive with one smaller window facing road. Window frames mostly gone. Stone cills. No external decoration to door and windows. Brickwork facades to other two elevations. No windows to rear. Single small window to south elevation.

Evaluation


The gate lodge is ruinous retaining little architectural detail of consequence apart from some stonework. The iron gates are probably of a later 19th cent. Date. Maybe of local historical interest.
