Exterior Description And Setting

A ruinous stone built L-plan mill building. This ruined mill building is part of the complex described briefly in HB02/05/021A. It is overgrown and difficult to decipher, apart from being the ruins of a late 18th cent. mill building. A former owner, a Mr James Poston, graduate of Q.U.B., installed an electric generator and turbine in the 1930s and from 1932 distributed electricity to the locality including Feeny village. The O.S. Map of 1830 indicates a corn mill on this site with mill race. The O.S. Memoirs refers to several mills in the townland of Gallany, some grain, some flax. However of further interest is the installation of a turbine by James Poston, see above, who supplied electricity to the local area and the village of Feeny. This arrangement ceased when the Electricity Board for Northern Ireland took responsibility for the generation of electricity in the 1940s. I H R No. 1963 References Primary Sources 1. O.S.
