Exterior Description And Setting

A substantial standing stone in an isolated position in a grazing field. About 1200mm high and almost the same width and 400 thick. No evidence of shaping.

Historical Information

The townland name, Gallany, means a standing stone – in Irish Gallan. There are other derivations including rock. The O.S. Memoirs states : There are several remarkable projecting rocks in this townland, of which two of the largest are called “the queen of the fairies rocks”.
