Exterior Description And Setting

A small culverted stone bridge E of Drumcovit House. This former single arch random rubble stone built bridge, now culverted is at the beginning of a very pleasant stretch of roadway, which continues to Knockan bridge. The parapet walls 17 metres long with 7 metres between are returned to form buttresses at each end. Very good hogsback sandstone copings. The pleasing stretch of road is the remains of the original line of the Feeny Road which passes by the entrances to Knockan and Ashpark Houses and not far away is Drumcovit House which enjoys the prospect. The road is tree lined and runs parallel to the Owenbeg River. The culverting has been somewhat crudely and obtrusively done but as it is not easily seen does not detract from the overall rural scene.

A bridge of the 2nd half of the 19th century and probably a replacement of an earlier one as the roadway is mid 18th cent. The realignment of the Feeny Road took place in c 1960s under Major Scott, the County Surveyor. The scheme won a Civic Award. I H R No. not recorded
