Exterior Description And Setting


Single storey / three bay vernacular house on S side of Bog Road. The right two bays are the dwelling and the left bay is an outbuilding. Pitched natural slate roof now in poor repair with the exception of the outbuilding. Two rendered and coped chimneys – one to each end of house. Walls are lime rendered over rubble stone. At left end are exposed foundation stones. Stone eaves course to left bay of house and outbuilding, brick eaves to right bay of house. Principal elevation faces N. Left bay (outbuilding) has a t+g sheeted door. Left bay of house has at right a projecting porch in granite rubble with catslide natural slate roof (from main roof). To left its is a 6/6 sliding sash window with horns and roughly dressed granite cill. Right bay has a 2/2 sliding sash window (vertically divided) with horns and finely dressed granite cill. Its left gable is abutted by a lower concrete block outbuilding (of no interest). Remainder of the gable is blank. Rear elevation of both house and outbuilding are blank. Right gable is abutted by a small concrete block lean-to (of no interest) and the remainder of the gable is blank.

Historical Information


House with this footprint shown on 1834 OS 6” map; not valued (i.e. under £5). No change in valuation between 1860s and 1920s.
