Exterior Description And Setting

One and a half storey/ two bay vernacular house with two storey outbuilding, up lane on W side of Cullion Road. Left gable of house faces onto Cullion Road. Pitched natural slate roof with a concrete coped brick and chimney to each gable. Small metal skylight to centre of front pitch. Advanced brick eaves course, no rain water goods. Rubble stone walls are rendered and painted. Front elevation faces NW. At centre, at left end of right bay is projecting porch with pitched natural slate roof and cement rendered brick walls. Its left and right cheeks are blank and door to front is gone. Each bay has a single 2/2 sliding sash window (vertically divided) with horns and granite cill. Left gable has two small 2/2 sliding sash windows at upper floor. Rear elevation has a single window to each bay. That to left bay is a modern casement window. That to right is a 2/2 sliding sash. Right gable is abutted by a lower outbuilding with pitched natural slate roof (brick chimney to right gable) and walls of rubble stone with brick eaves; no rainwater goods. Its front wall is flush with that of house and has a t+g sheeted door to left and a metal casement to right. Its rear wall is also flush with that of house To front of house is a yard, enclosed to W by a two storey outbuilding. It has a pitched natural slate roof, and rubble stone walls brought to courses. Its yard-facing elevation has two t+g sheeted doors and small ventilation openings. At first floor are two small t+g shuttered openings. Its left gable has a t+g sheeted loading door to loft. Rear elevation and right gables are blank.

House with this footprint shown on 1834 OS 6” map; not valued (i.e. under £5). Valued at £1.5s.0d in c.1862 valuation. Increases to £2 in 1885, suggesting additions (probably outbuildings).
