Exterior Description And Setting

Refurbished two storey / three bay house. Pitched concrete tiled roof with modern overhanging barges and boxed eaves. Modern brick chimney to each gable. Wet dashed walls with smooth basecourse. Porch to centre of front elevation has a pitched tiled roof and walls as main block. It has a stained timber door on its left cheek and a modern multi-paned casement window to its front gable. There is a similar single window to each remaining bay at ground floor and three to first floor, all with concrete cills. Rest of house has been similarly detailed and retains no features of interest.

Historical Information

First shown on 1860 OS 6” map, indicating a mid 19thC construction date. HMBB first survey card states: “Pre 1860. A two storey / three bay, house constructed of regular coursed granite rubble with trimmings. The roof is slated above a square eaves cornice; either gable rises to a rendered chimney. Georgian glazed windows one set in block brick dressing. Three multi-paned lights flank a gabled porch with carved bargeboard and decorated rectangular fanlight. Upper windows are nine paned”. The original HMBB survey slide shows a two storey / three bay house with pitched natural slate roof and dashed gable chimneys. Walls are of snecked squared granite, coursed, with red brick dressings to openings and brick eaves. The front elevation is symmetrical, but all openings are set slightly to left of centre. To middle is a brick porch with pitched roof and moulded timber bargeboard. Its door is sheeted with a margin paned transom over. Left and right bays each have a single 6/6 sliding sash windows, and to first floor in line with ground floor openings, are three 6/3 sliding sashes. Primary sources: 1.
