Exterior Description And Setting

Former thatched house, large three bay direct entry, similar to HB02/09/046 next door. Now demolished and replaced by new two storey harled and whitened house. This has raised gables and a lean-to front conservatory detailed to recall the form of the original. The attempt is only partly successfull. Original surrounding farmyard has been removed.

Historical Information

Date stone discovered upon demolition with the message “DB 1790”. Brewster is the name of the family next door and Daniel Brewster was an ancestor around the 1790s. Though the Caldwells and Brewsters intermarried over the generations family memory would associate DB with the cottage next door (HB02/09/046). This cottage, ruinous for a number of years was recently demolished to make way for the present house. Reference: Mr W H A Brewster Neighbour
