Exterior Description And Setting

Two blocks of estate cottages largely derelict facing south and aligning with Scotstown Road. One block to east with two cottages both derelict one with large opening knocked into facade and showing signs of renovation work. Three cottages to west, centre one completely demolished and most westerly (no 3) renovated beyond recognition with white dash and enlarged windows. The derelict cottages all in basalt with red brick arches to openings.

Formerly estate cottages circa 1840. Storey and a half. ‘Windows were double hung and divided into two frames by vertical glazing bars’. Reference: Historic Buildings Records.

Evaluation

A once picturesque group of estate cottages near Bellarena House. Their character derived from the simplicity and repetition of the facades, this quality is now almost obscured.
