Exterior Description And Setting

A telephone kiosk of K6 type, manufactured in cast-iron, with small-paned sides and door, glazed with glass, and a shallow domical roof. It stands on the inland side of the Antrim Coast Road at a particularly scenic part.

Historical Information

An example of the K6 or 'Jubilee' telephone kiosk, originally designed in 1935 by the English architect Giles Gilbert Scott, which came into production in 1936 when the type was first introduced across the United Kingdom. Precise date of installation at Garron Road not known. This particular kiosk can be dated to sometime before 1953, as the 'Tudor' crown motif it possesses was dropped in favour of St. Edward's crown following the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
