Exterior Description And Setting

A 4 bay wide, 2 storey building with shopfront and side entrance. Elevation to Ann Street, ground floor, from left : a wide shopfront with off-centre pair of glazed entrance doors, piers on each side, large display windows on each side, one larger than other, all framed with pilasters, long name fascia with good bold gold leaf lettering, cornice, good stop ends. Above at 1st floor 3 no. 2 pane windows, having sign between 2 of them. ½ round metal gutter on c.i. brackets. Wall smooth rendered, painted, rusticated plaster quoins at 1st floor only. Natural slated roof with chimneystack at each gable. The 4th narrow bay is recessed with 4 panelled doors, fanlight and above a 2 pane window under gutter. Slated roof. The building does not observe building line, set back slightly from upper part of Ann Street. However the juxapositioning makes for more interest.

Historical Information

Building probably mid or early 19th cent. It is likely that from No. 30 the buildings were probably erected after 1880. No. 28 has been renovated in 1990s. The narrow bay was formerly gateway.
