Historical Information

Erected to the memory of Daniel O'Grogan who died in 1696. Nothing of special significance or importance or local associational interest is known regarding the person commemorated, except that there is a townland called Groggan to the north-west of Randalstown, which was spelled Grogan in the early 19th century. Originally listed in 1974. Date when demolished or removed from the site not known. The headstone stood within the area of a scheduled monument, no. ANT49: 49. The church was built probably in the 13th century, and was ruinous by the early 17th century. References – Primary Sources 1. Inscription on slab. Secondary Sources 1. UAHS, West Antrim (Belfast, 1970), p 22 (but refers to church rather than graveyard). 2. D.A. Chart, E.E. Evans, and H.C.
