Exterior Description And Setting

A single storey gabled rectangular hall with a projecting single storey porch. Main entrance faces west. Slated roof; walls dry dash rendered using limestone chippings and pebbles, except rear gable which is smooth cement rendered; semi-circular headed windows of Neo-Georgian pattern but later replacements in PVC. Main feature is a rectangular rustic brick breakfront to porch containing recessed semi-circular arches over main entrance; secondary entrance on north side is rectangular with rustic brick surrounds and horizontal panels to door in restrained Art Deco style. SETTING: The building stands facing a main street in the village but set back from it within its own grounds. Red brick front boundary wall with wrought iron gates showing Art Deco influence.

Historical Information

Built in 1930; to the designs of W.R. Rogers A.I.A.A., architect and surveyor, of Belfast; vacated as a church in 1999 when a new church was opened on 6th March 1999 at Lurgan Road, Crumlin. Congregation founded in 1929, the year the denomination was established, following a secession from the Presbyterian General Assembly that year led by the Rev. James Hunter of Knock in Belfast. This is an example of an inter-war building in a mixed style which displays an attractive entrance bay in rustic brick, but which has suffered a number of inappropriate alterations and is otherwise of limited architectural interest.
