Historical Information

Several buildings are shown hereabouts on the 1834 OS 6” map and are described as a dwelling and two public houses in the corresponding Valuation Book. The building under review is shown in its present form on the 1858 6” map and is probably of mid 19th C date. The first survey card states, “ Pre 1834 [but cf. above comments]. A two storey house with harled walls and slated roof. Two windows on each floor are triple with d/h sashes unusual in that centre part is two paned wide. A lean to porch is felted and spoils the composition. Chimneys are of brick, of two buildings”. Site occupant states that the original building was demolished c.1975. Primary Sources 1. PRONI OS map 1st edition (1834), Co Down sheet 50. 2. PRONI 1st Valuation book (c.1835), VAL 1B/389. 3. PRONI OS map 2nd edition (1858), Co Down sheet 50. 4.
