Exterior Description And Setting

A 1½ storey basalt built former cottage with central stone chimney, natural slated roof with good overhangs all round. Gable entry with pitched roof over porch with low flanking basalt walls, sheeted above with match boarding set in framing. The building is two bays long facing out over coast road and to the rear a small brown brick built single storey and slated extension, a little in contrast to the basalt but the tonal value comparable. The facade to Seacoast Road has a delightful small central bay window with hipped slated roof and five lights with horizontal astragals dividing each light in three. In the north gable a small vertical timber casement. The basalt is roughly coursed with some galleting where vertical joints get too wide. Around two sides a boundary wall in basalt and return along the back of the footwalk to Seacoast Road. This is a charming adaptation and carefully done to make a positive group with the dwelling directly opposite and Bellarena station even though the latter’s extensions have not been so considered. The building, is set back about four metres from the footwalk, has concrete paving around it and around the side of the building. To the rear parking facilities are also defined by basalt walls.
