Exterior Description And Setting

Large-ish, formal, two storey gabled farm house on a slight rise on the N side of the Moss Road, c.3 miles W of Millisle. Front S facade has a central doorway with fanlight and sidelights, all encased with fluted pilasters and segmental arched headed ‘entablature’. Twinned windows to either side of doorway with simple surrounds and sash frames, except for that at inner right side which no longer has a frame and is ‘boarded’ with a corrugated metal sheet. Three evenly spaced windows to the first floor, much as before but with segmental arched heads. The window to the right no longer has a frame and is now boarded (as before). The E gable has two sash windows to either side on the first floor and one to the right on the ground floor. The W gable has two sash windows to either side on the first floor. In the centre of the rear is a large two storey gabled return with modern metal windows and a door. To either side of this (on the rear of the main house) is sash window to the ground and the first floor. The facade is finished in lined render with plain render to the return. The roofs are pitched with Bangor blue slates, with rendered parapets. Two yellow brick chimneys to the main roof. Cast iron rw goods. Outbuildings to E and N.

Historical Information

A building is shown on this site on the OS Maps of 1833/4 and 1858-60, however, its plan form is different from the present building and it appears to have been orientated eastwards rather than to the south.
