Exterior Description And Setting

Oddly shaped two storey gabled block consisting of two semi detached houses, built in 1906 but now modernised. The houses are situated on the E side of the Ballywalter Road at the S edge of Millisle. The front of the whole block is in three bays with that in the centre (belonging to both properties) projecting forward, with the end bays set back. On the E facade of set back bay to the S is the modern glazed entrance door of No.34 which has a large lean to-like open porch above (which encloses the whole of the ground floor of this facade of the bay). To the right of this (on the central bay) is a modern timber window to the ground and the first floor. The ground floor of the ‘set back’ bay to the N now has a large modern lean to porch, with modern glazed door (to No.32) and PVC windows. Above this, to the first floor, is a small-ish roundel window. The portion of the central bay belonging to No.32 has a modern lean to-like bay, with PVC windows, to the ground floor and a recently enlarged window, with PVC frame, to the first floor. The gables of the N and S bays are asymmetrical with three PVC windows to the first floor and two to the left on the ground floor, on the N gable, with a mirrored arrangement of timber windows on the S gable. The rear of the whole block is the opposite of the front elevation in that the central bay is recessed and the end bays project. The rear of the end bay of No.32 (to the N) has two PVC windows to the right on the first floor with an enlarged window (with PVC frame) to the left on the ground floor, with a PVC door to the right. The end bay of No.34 has a similar arrangement only mirrored and with timber windows and a small flat roofed extension to the left (containing the rear door). To the first and ground floors of the recessed centre bay is a PVC window to the left (No.32) with a modern timber window to the right (No.34). The entire facade of the block is finished in rough cast render with a plain rendered recessed base. The entire roof is pitched with asbestos free slates and a central (shared) rendered chimney stack, Clay ‘saw tooth’ ridge tiles to roof of No.32. Two Velux windows to rear. PVC rw goods.

According to the owner of No.32, this block was built in 1906 for a Mr. Lavery. The porches are recent additions, added when both houses were ‘modernised’ recently.
