Exterior Description And Setting

Large-ish two storey formal gabled farmhouse of c.1880s-90s, situated at the end of a short lane to the SE of the Abbey Road, c.1.5 miles SW of Millisle. Front E facade has a central modern panelled and glazed door with large sidelights and elliptical arch fanlight, all set within large-ish elliptical arch with simple surround with keystone. To the left is a sash window set in segmental arch headed opening with surround similar to doorway. Window as previous to right of doorway. To the first floor are two outer pairs of similar (but smaller) windows with a single similar window in the centre but with modern frame. N gable has sash window to right on ground floor with surround as before but with flat arch head. S gable has modern window opening (with modern frame) to right on ground floor and modern window (possibly in an original opening but without surround) to the right on the first floor. Roughly to the centre of the rear facade is a large two storey gabled return. To the N facade of the return are two first floor sash windows, with a large modern window to the ground floor. The return gable is blank. Attached to the ground floor of the S facade of the return and the left side of the rear of the main house is a fairly recently added flat roofed extension with a large modern window to its S facade. On the right side of the rear facade of the main house is a sash window to the ground and first floors. The entire facade is finished in rough cast rendered with chamfered quoins to front and main gables. Eaves course (which continues as band on main gables). The roofs of the main house and the return are pitched with Bangor blue slates. Two brick chimneys to main house and one to the gable of the return. Mixture of cast iron and PVC rw goods.

A building is shown on this site on the 1833/4 and 1858-60 OS Maps, but the present house is late Victorian and was probably built in the 1880s.
