Exterior Description And Setting

Single storey gabled house with attic, set on a slight rise at the end of a lane, N of the Woburn Road, c.1.5 miles S of Millisle. Front SE facade has recent left of centre lean to glazed porch, with glazed entrance door within. To the left of the porch is a modern timber window, with ‘Georgian’ panes, made to resemble a sash window. To the right of the porch are two similar windows. The NE gable has a similar window to the left at attic level, with one to the right at attic level on the SW gable. The rear now has a large flat roofed single storey extension at the right, with large PVC windows and door. To the left of this (on the rear of the main house) is a large-ish modern timber window, the ‘Georgian’-like panes. To the left of this is a tiny four pane window. The entire facade is finished in a rough cast ‘salt & pepper’ render. Plain rendered recessed base. The main roof is pitched with Bangor blue slates and two rendered chimney stacks to the centre and NE gable. In the centre of the rear of the roof is a flat roofed dormer with multi pane window(s). PVC rw goods. Area around house concreted.

Historical Information

A house is shown on this general site on the Dunbar estate map of 1797 (in possession of a Samuel Back) and on the 1st and revised editions of the OS maps. Thus, it is probable that this building is of eighteenth century origin. The porch, extension and rear dormer are all fairly recent alterations/additions (possibly c.1980).
