Exterior Description And Setting


A single-storey school in red brick with a shallow pitch to slated roofs, projecting porch in centre of entrance gable. Red terracotta finials to front gables; chimney to rear gable. Red sandstone plaque of oval shape above porch, inscribed ‘Millbrook National School 1913’. Buttresses along side elevations, with red sandstone weatherings; segmental headed side windows in white-painted timber, divided by central mullion and a transom into fixed lights with bottom-hung toplights. Semi-circular windows and doorway to entrance front, with red brick drip mouldings terminating in floriated label stops; modern flush door. Front boundary walling of red brick, partly original and partly new, with original wrought iron railings containing ornamental details and flower head crestings. Setting: the building stands facing the main road in a small tarmac playground, with houses to each side.
