Exterior Description And Setting

An extensive industrial site originally a limeworks but later a cement works with a number of utilitarian sheds and silos of 20th century date built in the area near the quays and a number of reinforced concrete hoppers built in the area of the quarry to the south of the railway line and main road which bisects the site. Apart from the relics of late Georgian date (old quay: HB06/05/043; and lime kilns: HB06/05/041) and an early 20th century concrete jetty (HB06/05/035) the associated buildings are of no special architectural interest or merit, but the large concrete hoppers are of impressive scale Setting: the site is located in a predominantly rural area characterised by verdant trees except for the site itself. The concrete hoppers stand in an abandoned quarry which has partly filled up to form a lake.
