Exterior Description And Setting

A two-storey house with rendered walls and a hipped roof but in derelict condition and missing its roof covering, formerly of natural slates. Symmetrical front elevation with central rectangular timber ledged door surmounted by a plain four-paned fanlight; semi-circular headed window over, with flanking tripartite windows to each floor; all glazing now missing. Setting: the building stands surrounded by trees and situated in a field in a rural area, set back some distance from the main road but with a modern house now built directly in front of it.

Appears on OS map of 1831 but not named; called Manybrook on OS map of 1858; called Minniebrook on OS map of 1902. Believed to have been the manse of the Presbyterian minister, Rev J. Bankhead, who was ordained in August 1762 or 1763. Replacement dwelling (no 34A Manse Road) erected in front of it in 1989. References - Primary Sources 1. OS Map 1831, Co Antrim 47. 2. This building was originally a handsome example of a vernacular Georgian classical style house but it has fallen into a state of almost complete dereliction.
