Exterior Description And Setting

Remains of a former two storey farm house roughly 1km N of the small hamlet of Loughries. Much of this house has now been demolished with only the rubble walls of the ground floor section still standing. Most of the openings are now blocked on the S and E facades, though some remain on the N elevation. Attached to the W side of this former house is a rubble built gabled barn/outbuilding which is in poor condition but still retains much of its openings and its slated roof.

Historical Information

A building appears on this site on the OS Map of 1834. The original survey of this house (carried out in April 1973) noted that there was an inscribed stone on the N face which read ‘Built by H. Ferguson AD 1821’. In recent times this house has been partly demolished due to its dangerous condition. A modern replacement dwelling has been built just to the S of the former house.
