Exterior Description And Setting

Building now demolished 18.06.2001 Second Survey report 15.02.1998 recorded: A large five-storey building consisting of a central block, nine windows wide, set back behind two five-storey wings placed at an angle to each side. Two lower storeys faced with rough faced sandstone, in regular courses with larger ashlar sandstone dressings; upper storeys rendered. Windows timber sliding sash, vertically hung, with horns, 1 over 1, except to top floor where 6 over 6 originally, and ground floor where combined with six-pane transom lights. Original recess in front of central block later filled by flat-roofed single-storey addition in white painted concrete in Art Deco style. The building stands within the built-up area of the town, directly facing a main road, abutted to one side by a three-storey flat-roofed building and to the other side by an insignificant single-storey gabled red brick shed.
